Shipping policy
1. Processing vs. Shipping Times
Clearly separate how long it takes to prepare the order versus how long it takes in transit. Clothing brands often experience fluctuations based on stock availability.
-
Order Processing: State the number of business days required to pick, pack, and prepare the clothing items (e.g., 1–3 business days).
-
Cut-off Times: Mention if orders placed after a certain time (e.g., 2:00 PM) or on weekends/holidays will be processed the next business day.
2. Shipping Rates & Methods
Give customers clear options at checkout. Offering multiple tiers helps prevent cart abandonment.
-
Standard Shipping: Typically 3–7 business days. Mention the flat fee or if it is calculated by weight.
-
Expedited/Express Shipping: Typically 1–3 business days for customers who need outfits for upcoming events.
-
Free Shipping Threshold: If you offer free shipping (e.g., "Free standard shipping on orders over $75"), state this boldly at the top of your policy.
3. Domestic & International Shipping
-
Geographic Coverage: Clearly list the countries or regions you ship to. If there are territories or PO Boxes you cannot ship to, explicitly state that.
-
Customs, Duties, & Taxes: For international clothing shipments, clearly specify who is responsible for import fees. Most brands operate on a DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid) basis, meaning the customer must pay customs fees upon delivery.
4. Order Tracking & Delivery
-
Tracking Numbers: Inform customers that they will receive a shipping confirmation email containing a tracking link as soon as their package leaves your warehouse.
-
Carrier Information: List the courier services you typically partner with (e.g., USPS, FedEx, Blue Dart, DHL) so customers know who to look out for.
5. Lost, Damaged, or Stolen Packages
Clothing items are highly targeted for theft. Protect your brand by outlining liabilities:
-
State your policy on packages marked as "Delivered" by the carrier but not received by the customer.
-
Provide a specific window of time (e.g., within 7 days of the estimated delivery date) for customers to report a missing or damaged item to your support team.
